The Back Lane Gallery Christmas and Anniversary Party

We made it!  We have been here for a year!  Recession and all!  It hasn't been easy, but it has been the best no paid job I have every had.  Last November I opened the gallery with a vision of having a place where local professional artist would have a place to exhibit their work and offer affordable art.  The artists contribute towards the rent and a small commission of 15% goes towards the running costs.  I use the space as my studio as well so customers can see a painting in progress on most days. It is not a posh gallery.  It smell of oils and turps and our resident potter Robin is always baking and often brings it in for the customers to sample. The paintings are not over priced and there is something for every one's budget. We also have tried to high light local craft makers and have some beautiful pottery, jewellery, hand made cards and furniture.  During the summer we had our "First Annual Art and Music Festival" All the musicians volunteer there time and were all from Killarney.  This is a community gallery.  Tina Reed offers oil painting classes.  I teach drawing to children and Robin Alger teaches pottery.  All in the gallery!  It has not been easy, but I have love every Minuit.  I would like to thank all the artists for their support!  And thank all of you who have come in to the gallery to support us as well!!!!  We hope we will be here for another year!  PLEASE JOIN US IN CELEBRATING OUR FIRST ANNIVERSARY AND CHRISTMAS ALL IN ONE! https://docs.google.com/present/view?id=d38dn9z_3g2k4cr52&interval=10&autoStart=true  3rd of December from 6 until 9.  Music by Geroid O'Duinnin and Christmas Carols by soprano Mary Culloty O'Sullivan.  Refreshments and Santa's Grotto is right outside our door! http://www.christmasinkillarney.com/santas_village.php

I love the sea.  I live in Killarney about an hours drive for the shore.  One of the things on my bucket list is to live near the ocean.  Any ocean!  When I look around the gallery walls all I see is landscapes of Killarney.  I decided to paint the sea instead.  One of my favorite place are the Skelligs.  I love to paint them.  The light and the mood changes all the time.  It can look lonesome and majestic,  Beautiful and frightening.  It has been the subject of many of my paintings lately.   The painting are available to view in The Back Lane Gallery in Killarney http://backlanegallery.blogspot.com

Christpoher O'Conner has joined the gallery

Christopher was born in Dingle in 1974,
a once, remote fishing town off the southwest coast of Ireland.
At 15, he was given a box of oil paints ~ and began painting.
Soon . . . books and paintings were piling up
as he became absorbed in reading about the lives & works
of artists such as Michelangelo, van Gogh, Cezanne, Matisse, Picasso.
At 19, he set out on his travels to see these masterpieces,
as well as those of his contemporaries.
Christopher has lived in both Ireland & America,
and through the years has continued to steadily work & exhibit.
These days, it is in the quiet of his studio,
or wandering through the nearby fields, forests & mountains
that Christopher is most likely to be found.
